1. AI FEATURES
1.1. This clause applies in addition to the rest of these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. Where this
clause conflicts with another clause in relation to the AI Features, this clause prevails for the AI
Features only.
1.2. In this clause, the following definitions apply:
"AI Control" means the setting in your account through which you can turn the use of your
information by the AI Features on or off, as more particularly described in our Privacy Policy;
"AI Features" means the artificial intelligence supported features we make available from time to
time, including the "Research Agent", "Life Story" and "Workspaces", together with any related
tools we describe as AI features;
"AI Provider" means a third party that provides large language model or other artificial
intelligence processing services that support the AI Features;
"Output" means any narrative, summary, timeline, suggestion, insight or other content generated
by the AI Features.
1.3. What the AI Features do: the AI Features use information available to us, which may include
Records, transcripts and information in your family tree, to generate Outputs such as research
suggestions, family narratives, relationship explanations, timelines and ancestry insights. We may
change, suspend or withdraw the AI Features, or any part of them, where we have a valid reason
to do so, including for legal, regulatory, security, technical or operational reasons or to reflect
changes in the third party services we rely on. Where a change is likely to have a material effect
on you we will give you reasonable notice, unless the change is urgent (for example, for security
or legal reasons). Certain AI Features may be made available on a beta basis under clause 28.
1.4. Use of AI Providers and international transfers: in order to deliver the AI Features we may share
relevant information with AI Providers, which may process that information outside the United
Kingdom. Where we transfer personal information outside the United Kingdom, we do so only
where an appropriate safeguard or other lawful transfer mechanism recognised under UK data
protection law is in place. Further detail is set out in our Privacy Policy.
1.5. Your control over the AI Features: you can turn the use of your information by the AI Features on
or off using the AI Control at any time. Turning the AI Features off may limit or remove certain
functionality. Changes you make through the AI Control take effect on a forward looking basis
and do not affect processing already carried out.
1.6. Information about living individuals and children: we apply safeguards intended to limit the
information about living individuals, and in particular children, that is shared with AI Providers.
Where a person in a family tree is recorded as living, or their living status is unknown, and the
available date of birth indicates that the person is, or could reasonably still be, a minor, we
exclude information relating to that person from processing by AI Providers. You are responsible
for ensuring that you have the right to add information about living individuals to your family tree.
1.7. Nature and limitations of Outputs: Outputs are generated by automated systems and may be
incomplete, inaccurate or out of date. Outputs are provided for general family history and
research purposes only, are not a substitute for your own verification, and do not constitute
professional advice. You should review and verify Outputs before relying on them.
1.8. Automated decisions: the AI Features are intended to support your research. They do not make
decisions that produce legal effects concerning you, or that similarly significantly affect you,
based solely on automated processing. Further information about how we use automated
processing, and the safeguards that apply, is set out in our Privacy Policy.
1.9. Acceptable use: you must not use the AI Features to generate, store or share unlawful, infringing,
harmful or misleading content, and you must not attempt to use the AI Features to re-identify or
extract personal information about living individuals contrary to these Terms or our Privacy Policy.
